Sovanna Pouv
Born in a refugee camp in Thailand to two survivors of the Khmer Rouge, Sovanna Pouv is a proud Cambodian-American who embodies the American values of uplift and community. Born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts (the second largest concentration of Cambodians outside of Cambodia), Sovanna grew up navigating his Cambodian and American identities while bearing the weight of a genocide and social pressures. Sovanna has spent years working within his community, from helping young men who were incarcerated reintegrate into society to serving as the executive director of the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association for 7 years. Today, he works as a field representative for California senate majority leader Lena Gonzalez in Long Beach (the largest concentration of Cambodians outside of Cambodia).
